At the state level in California, students have many choices regarding the type of entry that best fits their personal talents and skills as well as the resources connected with their topic. For example, the documentary category depends on heavy use of visual elements as well as technical and storytelling knowledge. The historical paper category on the other hand does not need either visuals or technical knowledge. Instead, it relies on academic writing skills.
While the NHD program originally was developed for students in grades 6 – 12, California has developed a set of entries designed for students in grades 4 & 5: the individual or group 2-Dimensional Display categories.
The Web Site category requires that students use the NHD Web Portal to construct their sites. To learn more about technical specifics related to this category, click here.
